GUERRERO COPYWRITING
Hi, I'm Keith Schofield. I'm the person behind Guerrero Copywriting. If it's ok with you I'd like to tell you a little about myself, the origin story of Guerrero Copywriting, and also share with you a few of my core values, both as a person and as a business owner.
I'm in my 50s (for full disclosure, the photo above is the only one my wife approved, and it's comfortably a couple of years old..), I've been married to Sue for over 25 years, and we have two grown-up boys, both of whom have fled the nest and are doing well with their lives. Family is hugely important to me.
My background is in science and engineering. For around 25 years I worked as a consultant and a contractor for several global scientific companies, and travelled extensively around the UK and Europe providing their customers with help, advice and engineering solutions.
My real passions though have always been reading and writing. Perhaps that stems from a grammar school education back in the distant past, who knows. For the past 30 years, aside from writing and proofreading technical manuals and information booklets for my science-based clients, I have been contributing articles to print and online media organisations, keeping websites updated and writing funding bids for various organisations.
A change in my personal circumstances a few years ago meant that for an extended period of time I wasn't able to travel or visit clients at their premises, so I made the decision to have a change in career and follow my heart. With that, Guerrero Copywriting was born. Writing full time has allowed me to work mostly from home and have a flexible schedule, both of which were important at the time and continue to be even now.
So, why 'Guerrero'? I began feeling unwell back in 2021 and was eventually diagnosed with a form of blood and bone cancer in early 2022. I had most likely had it undiagnosed for many years. I underwent a lot of very aggressive chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant in the 12 months after diagnosis. In that period I spent a lot of time with other cancer patients and my nurses, some of whom referred to us as 'warriors'. I've shamelessly stolen the moniker, then translated it into Spanish so it isn't too obvious. It feels fitting.
To be clear, whilst my cancer is incurable it is currently suppressed with a daily drug regime and regular hospital visits to undergo various procedures, I live a great life now and count myself lucky every day. I am able to work without any restrictions - indeed I would say I'm more focused than ever.
I absolutely love my work. I'm doing something that I feel passionate about. I'm at a stage in my life where I'm not looking to make a quick buck and move on. I value every one of my clients, and look to build a transformative relationship with each of them. It matters to me that any work I do is high quality, fairly priced for both parties, and gets the desired results for my clients. I consider myself authentic, passionate and courageous.
